Today the Octoberfest started in Munich. Who knows a bit about the Bayern myth, knows that this means that Bayern basically can’t lose at home during the Octoberfest. In addition this is a special game, since this is the Bavarian derby.
Today's game was an easy one for Bayern, both on paper and then also during 90 minutes with the exemption of the 10 minutes between the 1:1 and Bayern's 2:1. Nürnberg played like so many teams in Munich. The played very destructive, with 8 defenders and prayed that Bayern would not score.
In the first half, Bayern played well, had some chances, but failed to score. They were closest when Mario Gomez' shot hit the bar and then the ball failed to cross the line. Bayern played better than against Maccabi Haifa, but maybe Nürnberg was simply much weaker than the Israeli side.
In the second half, Luis van Gaal surprised the Bayern fans by taking out Mario Gomez and bringing in Ivica Olic. It was Olic who scored the goal in the 55th minute after a nice combination and assist by Thomas Müller. Bayern played better and better, but even after Nürnberg was about to lose the game, they did not change their game and continued playing very defensively.
In the 70th minute, Miroslav Klose came in for Olic. Klose had not played for the Bayern team due to injuries for a while. Now with Klose being back, the fight for the starting eleven will even become more intensive.
And then the shock for all Bayern fans (me included). Out of nowhere, after a horrible mistake by Pranjic, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (what a name) scored for Nürnber. After the goal Bayern continued to have chance after chance. Finally it was Daniel van Buyten who scored with a header, after a great crossing by Robben.
Bayern still does not play brilliant, but the team wins these games, which is the difference to last year. Also it looks like Luis van Gaal has a clear idea on how he wants the team to play.
